In the contemporary design landscape, the concept of material is undergoing a profound transformation. While for centuries the value of a surface was associated with its natural origin, weight, and the quantity of material extracted, today true innovation is measured by the ability to reinterpret that material, reducing its impact while expanding its expressive possibilities.
It is within this context that STONAIR™ was born—the new technical decorative finish developed by our Maison as a concrete response to the demands for sustainability, lightness, and design freedom required by contemporary architecture.
STONAIR™ is not stone, yet it preserves its memory.
It is neither a laminate nor a printed surface.

It is an ultra-thin technical finish achieved through advanced coating cycles, designed to replicate the depth, irregularity, and visual complexity of stone surfaces without the need for natural material extraction.
Stone, historically a symbol of durability, solidity, and permanence, is reinterpreted here as a universal language, freed from weight and fragility. STONAIR™ was created to overcome the physical limitations of natural stone while maintaining its material identity and expanding its scope of application.
The technological heart of STONAIR™ lies in the controlled layering of micro-glazes, striations, and micro-inclusions that simulate the process of mineral sedimentation. Each surface is constructed through technical gestures that retain a visible artisanal component, while still being part of a replicable and controlled industrial process.
This design choice avoids any of the "cheap" effects typical of photographic imitations or uniform surfaces. STONAIR™ does not imitate stone: it interprets it.
In terms of application, STONAIR™ stands out for its extremely low thickness, which does not alter the geometry of the substrate or introduce structural constraints. This allows for application on lightweight and recyclable substrates such as metal, MDF, composite materials, and wood, opening up new design possibilities in areas where natural stone would be impractical.
The reduction in weight also leads to a significant decrease in the environmental impact associated with transport, handling, and installation. STONAIR™ thus fits into a vision of sustainability that is concrete, measurable, and consistent with Molteni Vernici’s certified cycles.
This is not just claimed sustainability, but designed sustainability.

STONAIR™ is designed to engage with architecture, interior design, and high-end contract projects, offering a surface that maintains a strong Italian aesthetic identity while meeting technical requirements for durability and quality control.
In an era where luxury is often confused with an excess of material, STONAIR™ proposes a new measure: that of conscious subtraction. A surface that does not weigh, but leaves a mark.
STONAIR™’s nomination for design awards dedicated to material innovation stems from this vision. Not as a formal exercise, but as a demonstration that technology, when guided by a culture of materials, can generate new forms of responsible beauty.
STONAIR™ does not replace natural stone.
It complements it, lightens it, and projects it into the future.
