What is a rust effect finish?

The Rust Effect Finish It is a painted coating that reproduces the natural oxidation of iron — orange, brown and brown tones, raw and irregular texture, a feeling of industrial authenticity.

Unlike real rust (which degrades the support), the painted finish is distinguished by:

  • Stable simulated oxidation — does not degrade the underlying material
  • Controlled texture — calibrated distribution of the effect
  • Multi-support applicability — wood, plastic, MDF, metal
  • Support protection — the cycle includes anti-corrosion protection
  • Permanent aesthetics — Doesn't Evolve Over Time

Cycle: preparation → primer → metallic base → rust patina → transparent matte.

Who is the rust effect finish for

Architects and industrial designers
For lofts, restaurants and spaces where raw aesthetics are the protagonist.

Vintage furniture manufacturers
Who are looking for authentic and weathered finishes on new supports.

Retail and contemporary hospitality
For environments with an industrial-chic atmosphere and a strong identity.

Professional applicators

Applicazioni

Rust effect finishes are used in:

Paneling and cladding — industrial accent walls.
Furnishing accessories — tables, shelves, vintage elements.
Signs and signage — visual communication with character.
Retail and restaurant — industrial-chic environments.
Architectural elements — doors, frames, weathered details.

Supporti Compatibili

The application cycles are adapted to the support:

Ferrous metal — with anticorrosive primer (protection + aesthetic effect).
Wood and MDF — with sealing base for uniformity.
Composites and plastics — with universal adhesive primer.

The rust-effect finish protects the support instead of degrading it, unlike real oxidation.

FAQ

Does painted rust degrade the support?

No. Unlike real rust, the painted finish protects the substrate with a primer and clear coat. The appearance is weathered but the material is protected.

What's the difference with the Corten effect?

The Corten effect reproduces cor-ten steel (uniform reddish-brown patina). The rust effect is cruder, orange-brown and irregular, typical of common oxidized iron.

Is the texture real or just visual?

It's both visual and tactile. The surface has graininess perceptible to the touch, giving it authenticity.

Is it suitable for food surfaces?

No. For catering environments it is suitable on walls, panels and accessories, not on surfaces in direct contact with food.

Is it possible to control the intensity?

Yes. From light rust (just oxidized) to intense rust (very aged), modulating the system.

How do you clean it?

With soft and delicate cloth. The raw texture may hold dust: dust regularly.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, with UV-resistant transparent. The effect is particularly suitable for outdoor applications.

Are there technical data sheets available?

Yes. Complete documentation with ISO/EN parameters and certifications on request.

How long for the application?

The cycle takes 7-10 days including patination and full hardening.

Which transparent one is recommended?

Matte or satin to preserve the raw aesthetic. Gloss would make the surface artificial.
